The Antarctic blue whale is the largest animal that has ever lived on planet earth and an important constituent of the Southern Ocean ecosystem. Despite encouraging recovery signs of approximately 7% per annum, it is estimated that only 1-3% of the pristine number of the species remains in the wild today.
